Epcot’s Soviet Union Pavilion - The World That Never Was Season Two #3

June 23, 2017
00:0000:00

As Epcot was evolving during it's first few years in the 1980s, plans were proposed left and right for new attractions and pavilions. One of those pavilions, the Soviet Union, came out just as the planned country was falling apart and left in an economic collapse, and I know this was about money to some degree, but could we have also lost a Russian pavilion to feelings of fear through decades of propaganda and paranoia? This episode takes a look at why sometimes culture is overlooked because of politics and why we should focus less on politics and more on the human story.

Josh is joined this week by Annalise Ophelian, director of Looking For Leia, an film currently in production about Star Wars and it's female fans. It's an interesting topic to look at through the lense of a microscope as it showcases one piece of a larger puzzle for female fans and how it connects to the larger societal role changes we are seeing for women. Mineral King Ski Resort - The World That Never Was Season Two #2

June 16, 2017
00:0000:00

In 1965, Walt Disney bid on a piece of land just north of the Los Angeles area in part of the Seqouia National Forest. His plan was to take the land and turn it into a $35 million ski resort destination. What happened over the course of the next decade was serious push back from conservationists, but despite the long history of Disney's Mineral King, there is more to the story than we may know.

in this episode we explore what would have been the Mineral King Ski Resort, why it never happened, and what Disney may or may not know about still wanting to build the ski resort they have so long desired.

Disney, Pixar, and Sparking Productivity - Modern Mouse Radio #157

Looking at the workforce of today, there isn't nearly as much company loyalty as their once was. In fact you could say the number of companies people are loyal too is far less than the ones people aren't loyal to as employees. Disney, as well as Pixar, have continued to be companies that not only fans are loyal too, but also employees. Disney and Pixar, since their beginnings, have been companies that create an inspirational workplace. But why? Why do these two entertainment companies have such loyal employees?

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - The World That Never Was Season Two #1

June 2, 2017
00:0000:00

The Wizarding World is a peculiar case as it is the property rights are shared by it's author, JK Rowling, Warner Bros, and Universal Studios, but did you know that Disney was once in the mix? Disney had bid for the rights to the popular characters, books, and movies for their theme parks but they passed due to JK Rowling and her need for creative control. That doesn't mean that all is lost however. Despite losing out on the Wizarding World, Disney has gained serious competition and the theme park industry has been lit on fire ever since. Multiple attractions and lands have opened or are being planned to open and immersive themed experiences have grown leaps and bounds in only a few years. It's an amazing time to be a Disney fan, a Universal fan, or a theme park fan in general!
